Close the the Earth’s surface, small obstructions and uneven terrain can cause wind to blow erratically. At times, the wind can even appear to blow from multiple directions simultaneously. This unpredictable flow can be extremely hazardous to balloons and rigid airships attempting to land. Here, we see one such vehicle trapped in a perilous squall. Fortunately, it has deployed a small dorsal fin to provide stability.
